I can never seem to find dressy clothes that fit me. I’m always on the hunt for things that are good for work, out with friends or running errands with the kids. You can throw it over tank tops or other tops, and pair it with jeans leggings, skirts, or just about any other bottom option.
Most button-down dresses come with some type of belt or tie that wraps around the waist through a couple of loops and is supposed to tie in the front. Instead, I tie the belt in a bow in the back. I love that it can adjust with the thickness of the layers of your clothes, or weight changes. This trick also works for long sweaters or other jackets that use a belt that falls at the wrong place on our bodies – never at our waist!
Or, I cut off the loops and I don’t use the belt at all. It all depends on the style and cut of the dress – now jacket.
Button-down dresses can be found at various stores and often come with ¾ length sleeves. Or roll them up!

Buy or Reuse a Bridesmaid Dress

There are some categories of clothes that often come with option to order with extra length. A great trick is to order a black bridesmaid dress with extra length to use for any formal event. They’re great to use for everything from a prom dress to formal gown. If you can visit a bridal store like David’s Bridal, you can try on dresses and they will measure you and order the appropriate size and length dress for you. In addition, they usually have an alterations department on site and will make any final changes when the dress arrives. These are dresses that need to be ordered, so be sure to leave enough time, usually at least 4 weeks.
If you already have a bridesmaid dress that fits you, another option is to dye it black. Does it always work? No. But with some research into the fabrics of your dress and some Googling, it may be worth a try…especially if you do not plan to wear the dress again.
A formal black dress can be useful many times in life. The most difficult time is when you need one and you don’t have one.
